The Blue House. As soon as I saw it I knew we were going to love it, if not for the name alone.
“Mummy, can we go back to The Blue House, now please?” Kalyra would ask.
She wasn’t interested in the Hazard peaks rising out from the pink granite rocks in Freycinet National Park (one of the best national parks in Australia)
She just wanted to return to the Blue House where she could leap about in pirouettes on the deck, or play games with her sister in their gigantic room on the lower level of the house – their own private level.
We were on the second floor with Nanny and Poppy and beautiful views over the Swan River.

Blue House: Great location near Freycinet
The Blue House is located where the Swan River meets Great Oyster Bay, only a 5 minute drive from Coles Bay and world famous Freycinet National Park and Wineglass Bay.
It’s serene and quiet and stunning and the perfect place for a family to stay at what is my favourite area of Australia – Freycinet.
Freycinet National Park is stunning. It’s like a friend said to me, “You feel like you have wandered into a story book or magical land. It just feels so surreal.”
The minute we unpacked our bags, we were rueful that we would be packing them again in 2 days time.
We could have stayed in The Blue House for at least a week.
The Blue House Accommodation experience, Coles Bay
Spending the mornings enjoying the walking trails around the national park, having champagne picnics at the lighthouse for sunrise, rock scrambling at Honeymoon Bay, and hiking down into one of the world’s most iconic and beautiful beaches – Wineglass Bay.
Then the afternoons would be spent on the deck having a barbie and admiring the views with a glass of wine in hand and a good book.
Or, a play on the beach in front of the house, or kayak out on the water.
Or a stunning sunset over Great Oyster Bay.
It was also the perfect place for inspired thought for our blog.
This area blows your mind at every turn and The Blue House is the perfect accompaniment to it.
The owners provide kayaks for hire at extra cost, there are fishing rods for use, plenty of games and balls and badminton sets to play with.
There are shelves of DVD’s and piles of magazines to read – I relished in the opportunity to put my feet up on the comfy couch and digest a few (yes something I rarely do so is a huge treat!).
The kitchen is very modern and I got extremely excited that for the first time on our trip, we finally stayed somewhere that had huge bowls we could use for our Nepalese curry dinner.
Which, strangely tasted the best I had ever made. A bit of Blue House love sprinkled in there perhaps?
The beds were comfy and I loved waking early to see the fog dancing on top of the river through my bedroom window.
The Blue House in Coles Bay rocks. I think we’ll be back.
